Impatience is one of the many things I struggle with and sometimes I find I want to be ”there” instead of ”here”.
I’m constantly reminding myself about the importance of patience. It’s so easy to get caught up with content and ideas that are ephemeral. These ideas don’t have long lasting properties, they’re there to hold your attention and then move you onto the next pointless thing.
I find myself having to catch my thoughts when they’re trending towards a short term mindset. I want everything to happen yesterday, but the world isn’t that kind – it shouldn’t be.
I think it’s a great idea to find people you admire. These kinds of people can help you navigate through life. They could be people you know intimately or for me personally people that I don’t know, but have qualities that I can aspire too.
To help with my impatience I’ve found people from the past and present that fit the mould. They are longterm thinkers and true compounders in life and I use their ideas for my own personal benefit.
Charlie Munger, Tom Gayner and Nick Sleep are just a few that have helped me. They’ve gone about their lives in a way that helps others know more and pass down the wisdom that they’ve learned, one article, interview or book at a time.
I personally use their ideas to improve myself by re-reading and repeating the things I’ve found enduring. Over time their ideas have become a part of who I am. These people have helped me stay the course even when my own inner monologue is saying otherwise.
“To live only for some future goal is shallow. It’s the sides of the mountain that sustain life, not the top.”
― Robert M. Pirsig
I dilute the bad with the good and I hope to become a better person in the process.
