Charles Munger passed away last week.
I’m struggling to find a more quotable person. His words of wisdom have inspired many generations of investors and will continue to inspire many more.
He was one of the greatest intellects of our time and will be missed by many. His words have inspired me and provided the driving force l needed to pursue the things l love with deep curiosity.
I’ve put together some of my favourite Charlie quotes for you all to enjoy.
- I constantly see people rise in life who are not the smartest, sometimes not even the most diligent, but they are learning machines. They go to bed every night a little wiser than they were when they got up and boy does that help, particularly when you have a long run ahead of you.
- In my whole life, I have known no wise people (over a board subject matter area) who didn’t read all the time – none, zero.
- It is remarkable how much long-term advantage people like us have gotten by trying to be consistently not stupid, instead of trying to be very intelligent.
- Take a simple idea and take it seriously.
- The best thing a human being can do is help another human being know more.
- Those who keep learning will keep rising in life.
- If you think your IQ is 160 but it’s 150, you’re a disaster. It’s much better to have a 130 IQ and think it’s 120.
- Knowing that you don’t know is more useful than being brilliant.
- I had a considerable passion to get rich, not because l wanted Ferrari’s. I wanted the independence. I desperately wanted it.
- Live within your income and save so you can invest.
Because of Charlie I’ve tried to become a learning machine and spend each day with a little more wisdom than the last, and hope to continue to compound these small steps over a lifetime.
Thank you, Charlie.
J.H.Repetto.
