The Car Fiasco

My car broke down recently, It was old and run down and sadly, it was picked up to go to the scrap yard. It’s time had come.

In the past this would have been a difficult time for me. Trying to find the money to buy another car, the stress, the lost sleep, the anxiety. Now, thanks to discovering financial independence this has sort of became a none event. l was without a car for about a three weeks and then l found the one l was after and yeah, life is now back to normal. No stress, no worries, and we moved on.

Knowing that it’s going to be okay and you can survive a financial setback because of having some money whether it be an emergency fund or just a bit of cash you’ve saved up can be truely empowering. It may not be full financial independence but enough to weather the inconveniences of everyday life. It’s what JL Collins would call ”F-U money”.

The car l ended up buying is a no fuss inexpensive Toyota worth $5500 to be precise and it’s all l need to commute to and from work. I’m proud of this decision because l am a car guy at heart and I’m also a mechanic by trade so I had to fight my inner desire’s to buy the latest and greatest or that old overpriced car that l could turn into a project and restore it over time.

Even though it is a ”cheap” car I feel more wealthy than ever. To me wealth is what you don’t see and I would much rather spend my hard earned money buying assets that produce income and grow over time than buy a consumable product that is unproductive.

Spend less than you earn, invest the difference, and watch the magic happen.

Thanks for reading.
